DAY 118 (1 AUGUST) – Gatekeeper butterflies (Pyronia tithonus) (Wyck, Hampshire)

I saw these gatekeeper (or hedge brown) butterflies today in a Hampshire garden. They’re sharing the delights of a speedwell flower (veronica longifolia, I think).
According to butterflyconservation.org (a new discovery), they are found where clumps of flowers or tall grasses grow near hedgerows and field edges. This is a perfect description of my friend’s garden with its idyllic views of rolling southern English countryside.
